Give your time and skills to deliver support to people after they’ve lost someone they love.

Are you:

  • A 2nd year (or above) student on a diploma course
  • Qualified and looking to broaden your range of experience
  • Able to commit to a minimum of a year’s placement
  • Keen to work with a diverse client group who have been impacted by a bereavement
  • Able to commit to three hours a week for clients plus fortnightly group supervision

What we offer:

  • A comprehensive induction. You will feel prepared before you meet your first client.
  • Fortnightly supervision. Regular supervision gives you space to reflect on your work and develop your practice.
  • Ongoing CPD. Keep learning and building your skills throughout your placement.
  • Flexible timings. We work with you to find placement hours that fit around your studies, work and life.
  • A BACP accredited service. Your placement is with an organisation that meets the professional standards of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
  • Over 40 years of expertise. CELBS was founded in 1984 by Colin Murray Parkes, a pioneer of grief research, and we bring that depth of knowledge to everything we do.

“It is a real privilege to be involved with CELBS and see the positive impact the work of our team has on those struggling with loss. We are very grateful to our funders, supporters and volunteers, because without them we wouldn’t be able to continue the work”.  Catherine, Trustee

Our trustees guide CELBS and make sure we can keep supporting bereaved people in East London for years to come. It is a chance to use your skills where they really count.

  • Make a lasting difference. Help shape the future of a charity that has supported people through grief since 1984.
  • Use your experience. Your professional and life experience helps us make good decisions about our services, our funding and our people.
  • Develop new skills. Gain experience in leadership, governance and strategy that will also help you in your own career.
  • Join a committed team. Work alongside people who care deeply about our community and the work we do.
  • Give back locally. Help make sure everyone in Tower Hamlets and East London can get support when they lose someone they love.

You do not need previous board experience. We especially welcome people with skills in finance, fundraising, marketing, HR or law, and people who know our local community well.

Throughout the year we hold walks, quiz nights, bake sales and other events, and you are warmly invited to join us.

Events

Host a quiz night, a gig, a coffee morning or anything else you can think of. Big or small, your event brings people together and raises vital funds so no one in our community has to grieve alone.

Bake Sales

Bake a batch, set up a table and invite friends, family or colleagues to tuck in. A bake sale is one of the easiest ways to raise money and get people talking about grief and the support that is out there.

Running

From a local 5k to a full marathon, running for CELBS is a great way to set yourself a challenge. Tell us about your race and we will help you make the most of your fundraising.

Walks & Hikes

Get your walking shoes ready and take on a sponsored walk, trek or hike. Go solo, bring friends or join one of our group walks. Every mile you cover helps someone in our community get through grief with the right support.

We have some exciting events coming soon, so follow us on Instagram at @celbs_uk to be the first to hear about them.
